Planned Giving Research Roundup: Key Findings from Claire Routley
Research reports are tasty brain food, but very tough beach reading. In this webinar, we offer the condensed versions of recent studies with UK researcher Claire Routley. Claire will share a potted summary of her overall research work before focusing on a couple of recent research findings. These include collaborations with Professor Russell James such as “Money Attitudes Driving Charitable Bequest Intentions: Understanding Legacy-Gift Segments to Inform Nonprofit Communication Strategy.” The study found that fundraising success depends on understanding four key money-attitude factors and pivoting between them at the right time. Claire’s experience as a hospice fundraiser also informs her research, and she’ll share findings on how a family’s journey through death, dying and bereavement shapes stewardship communications. We’ll provide links to full reports for your rainy day reading list.
Claire Routley holds a PhD from the University of the West of England, where her doctoral research examined donors’ motivations for leaving charitable legacies. She is Consultancy Director at Legacy Futures in the UK, where she continues to research and write about gifts in wills. Claire has worked for Bible Society, Age UK, Royal Voluntary Service and a local hospice, and teaches the Chartered Institute of Fundraising’s qualification courses. She is also a member of fundraising think-tank Rogare’s international advisory panel, and was named AFP’s emerging scholar 2017.
